How the fees add up
Fees = (price + shipping) × (6.5% + 3%) + $0.25 + $0.20, plus the Offsite Ads % if the sale came from an ad. Example: $56 for 2 items + $8.50 shipping = $64.50; fees $6.58. After the $7.90 label and 2 × $8.50 cost, profit is $33.02, a 51.2% margin. Several units of one listing in an order add $0.20 per extra item.
How much does Etsy take per sale?
In the US: a 6.5% transaction fee on price and shipping, 3% + $0.25 payment processing, and $0.20 per listing. Offsite Ads add 15% (12% if you sold over $10,000 in a year) on sales they bring.
Why does my 1099-K show more than I was paid?
It reports the gross (item price plus shipping) before Etsy fees and refunds. Deduct the fees as an expense.
Does sales tax count as my income?
No. Sales tax Etsy collects and sends to the state isn't your income.
